submissions opportunities--plus Surrey Writers' Conference registration

The Masters Review, based in Oregon, is "A platform for emerging writers." Interesting submissions opportunities at the following website. Scroll down to see them all. https://mastersreview.com/submissions/

Also note the following announcement from Surrey [BC] International Writers Conference.

From conference coordinator Kathy:

May 28, 2019

Nearly there! Registration for #SiWC19 opens in ONE WEEK. If you haven't already marked your calendar for Wednesday, June 5 at noon Pacific time, go do it now. Last year, our full conference packages sold out in just 27 hours, so if you want a spot at this year's conference, don't put off registering.

Don't forget applications are now open for our SiWC Diversity Scholarship and our Tan Seagull Young Writers Scholarship. If either category applies to you, please apply. Details are on our website - www.siwc.ca - under News and Community.

Our writing contest is also open to entries. The Storytellers Award for short stories (fiction or creative non-fiction) awards $1000 and publication to the first prize winner. Winning entries are chosen by SiWC's own Diana Gabaldon and Jack Whyte. Your $15 entry fee, unchanged in more than a decade, goes directly to support the contest and our not-for-profit conference.

Next Wednesday marks the most exciting day of the year, other than the conference itself, for all of us here at SiWC Central. Watching your registrations come in makes all the hard work we put into creating the conference worthwhile. Looking forward to seeing many of your names then!

IAG president, Shirley Dodding's, new book

The following message is from our Interior Authors Group president, Shirley Dodding. Thanks, Shirley.

My new book is called DANCING WITH THE STRIPES.  My husband
Paul, created the cover, and my seventeen year old granddaughter completed the
editing. I am very proud of this book, and I know others will enjoy it as well. It is
currently available on Amazon. ca or Indigo under my full name Shirley Ellen
Dodding, or the book title above.

Alyssa, at twenty-one, loses both her parents in a car crash, and her gran
pays for her to have a fourteen day cruise.  To ward off depression and to
hopefully find love and a new life, Alyssa takes the trip, but everything goes
wrong.  Undisciplined children on the ship, make her trip a nightmare. Before
she can stop it she is thrown into the brig.  Who will save her, the detective
named Clive or the F.B.I?  Who will save the ship?

seeking a family-story writer & a speech-writer

The following message is from Leslie Brochu. If you're interested in either of these writing opportunities, please e-mail leslie.brochu@gmail.com . Thanks.

Hi there, I am seeking a writer. Vesta Giles suggested that I contact you to seek a writer for our family story. It is a story of terminal illness, miraculous experimental medical treatment and recovery.

I am also wondering if some of your members are experienced speech writers?

Thank you Leslie Brochu, leslie.brochu@gmail.com

Thanks, Dana, & looking forward to Gwynne's talk June 12

Big thanks to Dana Ramstedt for her good presentation on book-formatting. Author Gwynne Hunt will speak at our next meeting, June 12 at 6:30 PM in the Games Room of North Shore Community Centre, 730 Cottonwood. Here's a bit about Gwynne:

I have recently had a book published by Silver Bow Publishing, Unlocking the Tin Box. I am looking for writer's groups and/or events where I can do a reader's theatre or storytelling performance with stories from my book. Of course my goal is to sell my books but I enjoy sharing the creative journey with others.

I went searching for my dad-the real person by looking though his old tin box, telling his stories and mine. Growing up very poor in Vancouver and other parts of B.C. I bring in a lot of colour and local history. The journey ended when I did dna and found out he was not my biological dad and I was not English at all but a Viking!

I live in Port Alberni and would like to find places off the Island to promote my work. I was born in Kamloops and write a bit about my early years there 1949. If you go to Amazon you can read the first two chapters for free. [Here's the link to Gwynne's book: https://www.amazon.com/Unlocking-Tin-Box-Gwynne-Hunt/dp/1774030101 ]

I have written, directed and produced over 30 plays. I've produced many Fringe Festivals. I have published four magazines and three books, and been included in many anthologies and chapbooks. I designed and taught a Creative & Freelance Writing course and taught it through adult education at the University of the Fraser valley for ten years. I consider myself a working writer and offering advice and tips is what I do.
