novelettes, novellas, poetry, flash fiction: Ancient Paths

The Christian literary magazine Ancient Paths is seeking long stories,
novellas, poetry, and flash fiction. See below and on their website,
http://www.editorskylar.com/magazine/table.html.

The publisher of Ancient Paths literary magazine is currently seeking
fiction of 8,000 - 35,000 words for Stand in the Ways, a new anthology
of spiritual novelettes and novellas. All genres will be considered,
but literary fiction, mainstream fiction, social science fiction, and
character-driven romances will likely receive preference.
Spiritual themes may be explicit or implicit and might include topics
such as redemption, forgiveness, doubt, faith, reconciliation,
spiritual growth, or spiritual struggle. Do not be didactic,
simplistic, or preachy. We are not looking for formulaic inspirational
fiction, but rather fiction with rich, nuanced spiritual themes,
believable stories, and interesting characters.
QUERY FIRST to the editor, Skylar Burris, at ssburris@cox.net. Be sure
to include all of the following in your query:
(1) Your name, e-mail address, and mailing address.
(2) A brief synopsis of your novella, not to exceed 250 words (think
cover blurb text). Include title, genre, and total word count.
(3) If you work has been previously published, note when and where it
appeared. Previously published works may be considered provided your
novella is not currently available online anywhere. Also indicate
whether or not your work is a simultaneous submission.
(4) The first 1,500 words of your novella as a Word or RTF attachment.
Use the e-mail subject heading "Fiction Query (Title of your Novelette
or Novella)."
Each author selected for inclusion in the anthology will be paid
one-half cent per word up to a maximum of $100 and one free copy of
the print edition. The publisher obtains nonexclusive print and
electronic (e-book) rights, and you are free to republish your work
elsewhere.
Poetry
Ancient Paths is currently considering submissions of poetry of up to
35 lines for online publication on its Facebook page. Poems may be
rhymed or unrhymed, free verse or formal. Payment for publication is
one free copy of a past issue of Ancient Paths (#14) and a $2 discount
(if desired) on Issue #17. (No purchase is required for publication.)
Poets grant the publisher one-time, nonexclusive electronic rights,
and they are free to republish their work elsewhere at anytime.
Send your poem pasted directly in the body of an e-mail to
ssburris@cox.net. Please indicate if your work has been previously
published and, if so, when and where. Previously published works are
acceptable provided you retain all rights. Use the subject heading "AP
Online Poetry Submission."
All poems should have a spiritual theme or religious figures (for
instance, you can write a poem about a Bible character or a saint).
Themes may be explicit or implicit and might include such subjects as
sin, redemption, forgiveness, doubt, faith, spiritual growth, or
spiritual struggle, to name but a few.
Flash Fiction
Ancient Paths is currently considering submissions of flash fiction of
up to 400 words for online publication on its Facebook page. Payment
for publication is one free copy of a past printed issue of Ancient
Paths (#14) and a $2 discount (if desired) on Issue #17. (No purchase
is required for publication.) Authors grant the publisher one-time,
nonexclusive electronic rights, and they are free to republish their
work elsewhere at anytime.
Send your flash fiction piece pasted directly in the body of an e-mail
to ssburris@cox.net. Please indicate if your work has been previously
published and, if so, when and where. Previously published works are
acceptable provided you retain all rights. Use the subject heading "AP
Online Flash Fiction Submission."
All works should have a spiritual theme. Themes may be explicit or
implicit and might include such subjects as sin, redemption,
forgiveness, doubt, faith, spiritual growth, or spiritual struggle, to
name but a few.
Art
Ancient Paths is not currently seeking art work, though our needs may
change. "Like" Ancient Paths on Facebook to follow future submission
needs.

Catholic fiction opportunity: Tuscany Press

Publisher Tuscany Press defines Catholic fiction as "Stories infused
with the presence of God and faith - subtly, symbolically or
deliberately. Think of Flannery O'Connor, Graham Greene, J.R.R.
Tolkien and G.K. Chesterton and many others whose writings reflected
the thoughts of the great writer Gerard Manley Hopkins: "The world is
charged with the grandeur of God."

Beginning on January 1, 2013, Tuscany Press will be open to
submissions of novels, novellas, young adult novels, and short
stories. The publisher requires a reading fee of $10 "not for
financial reasons, but to insure that writers pause before sending in
their manuscript and ask: 'Does my manuscript have the presence of God
and faith - subtly, symbolically or deliberately?' and 'Have I put my
work into a form that best presents my talent and the story?' For more
info, see http://www.tuscanypress.com/

opportunity: Catholic literary magazine

Dappled Things, a Catholic literary magazine, considers submissions in
a variety of formats: poetry, fiction, etc. However, they have a new
submissions policy as explained below.

If you are interested in submitting your work to Dappled Things,
please note that we have a new system for processing submissions. We
are no longer receiving submissions by e-mail, and any work sent that
way after November 25, 2012 AD will not be read. Instead, we have
switched to using Submittable, a system that will not only allow us to
track submissions more effectively and have a quicker turn-around with
regards to editorial decisions, but also will allow contributors to
track the status of their pieces more easily, not just those submitted
to Dappled Things, but to any journals that use the same system. To go
directly to the submissions page, click on
https://dappledthings.submittable.com/submit
