WORKSHOP 1: Nonfiction Writers Toolkit - What are the advantages of writing nonfiction, what writing opportunities are available, and how can we communicate faith in secular nonfiction?

 

WORKSHOP 2: Fictionalizing Real Life - Why and when might we decide to fictionalize real life experiences rather than write them as fact? This workshop will consider reasons and explore ways of transforming real life into fiction.

 

The workshops are hosted by the BC chapters of The Word Guild, a national ministry that supports writers and editors who are Christian.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY

Elma (Martens) Schemenauer is a first-generation daughter of Russian Mennonite immigrants whose experiences inspired her Mennonite novel Consider the Sunflowers. It's about love, faith, and family in 1940s Vancouver and rural Saskatchewan. She's also the author of 75 other published books including:

Want to talk to your computer and save wear & tear on your hands, back, & neck? I dictate to mine using the speech recognition feature built into Windows 7. It works fine and only requires about 30 minutes of training. The following website tells how to use it in Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, & Windows 10: http://tinyurl.com/z88aqja . There’s also a note on how to use it in Windows XP.

 

You need a microphone. My headset/microphone is a Sennheiser that I ordered online—fairly pricey. I understand you can also buy an acceptable headset/microphone for about $60 from a place like Staples. Ask for something that can be used with speech recognition software. Logitech is one brand.

 

Since I am able to use my hands, I use a combination of speech recognition & keyboarding. Some people use only speech recognition.
